Exploring Geiranger

After leaving Sogndal we found ourselves heading north to our next location in Stryn. On the way up we decided to detour to Kjenndalsbreen, an offshoot of the Jotunheimen Glacier to check out the waterfall and glacier. The drive here was beautiful and when arrived we were surprised that we were the only ones here for a bit, and just how close you could get up to the water. It’s definitely worth checking out, especially if you want to avoid stops and sights where the big crowds go.

After our hike we headed to Stryn and another amazing Airbnb find. We booked 2 nights in a brand new container house that spared no expense, including floor to ceiling windows with fantastic views of a private waterfall a short walk away, as well as a sauna and a cold plunge pool. One of the best finds yet.

We used this place as our home to travel to Geiranger for our boat cruise on one of the most visited fjords in Norway. Being about an hour away was because once we got to Geiranger it was packed with people from the cruise ships visiting. Even at the tail end of peak season this area gets pretty busy.

We took the 90 minute boat cruise that takes you out the furthest and had a great day with lots of sunshine. Although the waterfalls weren’t as powerful as they could be, they were still spectacular. Also nice was that there weren’t many other boats on the water so it was pretty quiet with the exception of the smaller RIB boats that flew by. They also don’t blast things over a speaker so if you want commentary while on the cruise, you can download the app and bring your own headphones.

We then had some time to burn before our next activity so we grabbed some lunch and walked around the tourist shops looking for unique souvenirs but unfortunately it was a lot of the same stuff we’d seen everywhere else.

The highlight of the day was taking a 2 hour drive around Geiranger in the e-mobility cars and checking out the views at Flydalsjuvet and to sit in the queen’s chair with a view of thd fjord, Eagle’s bend to see the fjord from the other side and the Seven Sister’s waterfall. It was also fun wizzing past people on the road and seeing their faces as we pulled up to the parking lots. This was really fun to drive around in and would recommend if you ever get the chance. After the long day in Geiranger we headed back to the Airbnb and relaxed in the sauna and cold pool.
