We spent several days in Sogndal staying at the Sogndal Fjordpanorama Airbnb with amazing views of the fjord. This was our base for a few days as we explored the area of Flåm and taking in what it had to offer.

While in Flåm we took a boat cruise on the Nærøyfjord and were amazed at how peaceful and calm the fjord was.

We then rode the Flamsbana Railway to Myrdal, through the narrow Flåm valley, and had amazing views of the mountains, small farm villages and then stopped at Kjosfossen waterfall. The train stopped here and we were able to get off and walk to the viewing platform for a quick photo. While taking in the view, a mysterious woman with a red dress emerged from behind the stone structure and began dancing to a Norwegian folk song. Apparently this is Huldra, a forest spirit from Norwegian folklore, she lures men into the woods to seduce them. (It did not work. )

While staying near Aurland, we also ventured up the steep narrow road to take in the view at Stegastein. This structure, juts out 98 feet from the mountainside, and over 2100 feet above Aurlandsfjord. What makes this structure so unique is the glass at the end that makes you feel like you’re floating. The place definitely fills up quickly when the tour buses show up but if you wait a few minutes it clears out pretty quickly.

No trip to Norway would be complete without getting out and exploring nature up close. Our first hike on this trip was to the summit of Molden. We had amazing weather and clear skies this day to see Lustrafjord. This was a moderately challenging hike but so glad we did it.
